Has this happened to you: You took your car to an Automotive Service Center, like Jiffy Lube. You received an oil change. Then, a couple of weeks later, your engine blew up?
This is actually more common than you might think. It happens when the Automotive Service Center attempts to change your oil, but forgets to put new oil back in the car. Then, you run your car without oil, the engine has nothing to lube the pistons, and one of the pistons blows through the cylinder. The results of this are easy to see. If you take it to a mechanic for review, the mechanic will find metal shavings in the oil pan.
How could this happen? Think about what it was like when you took your car for the oil change? Chances are every car port was full, the manager was trying to check people out and answer the phone, and the mechanics were either young and/or not paying attention while they try to do multiple things at once. Our society has created an environment where money is preferred over service, quantity over quality. As such, you are lucky if your car was serviced with any care and attention.
Unfortunately, the repairs for this problem are very expensive. You essentially have to get a new engine. Usually, the Automotive Service Center is going to fight you tooth and nail too. However, we have been successful at winning these cases for our clients. Sometimes we are able to get some money in your pocket to help with repairs. Sometimes, we are able to get you a new/used engine.
Here’s a quick tip: every time you get an oil change, check the dipstick when you get home. That 5 minutes will potentially save you a lot of time, money, stress, and aggravation in the long run.
